About Tallow

Tallow is the rendering down of suet which is the fat found in cattle surrounding the animals organs. The result is a pure fat that hardens at room temperature.

My suet is hand rendered into tallow using a slow low heat. It is double and oft times triple rendered to ensure a pure product and then whipped into a beautiful dreamy butter style moisturiser.

Yes!

Organic grass fed and finished tallow is optimum. This ensures that not only is the finished product pure but also loaded with the amazing nutrients that makes tallow balm/butter so beneficial.

My tallow is sourced locally and is free from toxic chemicals, pollutants and hormones, where the livestock exist in a world that is free from all unnecessary human interference. They feed on over 250 species of seasonal native grasses and plants that grow from nutrient-rich soil.

My standard tallow only has one other ingredient- organic golden Israeli jojoba oil. I chose this type as even though Australia makes beautiful jojoba oil it is in small amounts and has yet to be certified organic. Israel is known for its stunning pure and sustainable jojoba oil.

The magnesium infused tallow has added magnesium chloride in the form of Zechstein Magnesium Flakes, pure spring Mount Tamborine water and a little natural beeswax.

And the mens beard balm and candles have added natural pesticide free beeswax.

That’s it!

There is a natural scent yes!

The way the tallow is rendered and the method used when rendering takes out most of that ‘beef’ scent that is associated with tallow. Also, the quality of the suet matters- grass fed and finished will always smell cleaner and the scent often changes during the seasons.

It has been described as a very comforting scent and warm.

Some take time to adjust to the scent when changing over from mainstream and highly fragranced alternatives and many don’t take issue at all.

I’ve pregnant, vegetarian and vegan repeat customers that were at first concerned regarding the scent but keep coming back for more!

As my unscented tallow is a 2 ingredient product there is no where to hide behind when it comes to the aroma- like the use of honey, wild herbs etc.

If concerned I recommend choosing the vanilla scented or the unscented honey (little added beeswax) as your first jar. The vanilla is a botanical extract, not an essential oil so is very gentle on the skin but also smells beautifully warm. Not a sugary vanilla scent like with a fragrance oil.

Yes! Tallow is widely known for its gentle settling of the skin and healing properties. As my tallow is grass fed and finished it contains many fat-soluble vitamins which can help alleviate redness, inflammation, irritation, cracked and scaly skin without causing further flare ups.

As it is free of toxic chemicals, fragrances and other additives it is a great product for children, elderly and sensitive skin.

Tallow easily replaces a multitude of skincare products!

Tallow can be used as a;

  • Nappy cream
  • Body butter
  • Face cream
  • Heel balm
  • Hand cream

Recommended shelf life is 12-18 months in a shaded cool spot.

Magnesium tallow has a shelf life of about 6 months due to the use of only natural preservatives.

I don’t think that it will sit around long enough for you to find that out!

Pure essential oils only!

As essential oils are medicinal in nature I only use recommended dosage amounts and not a drop more. Due to this I cannot add in more when making up your tallow however once you have your product you are free to add to it as you please.
